You should be able to use any program that allows computer to computer calls to do that. I have never used google talk but I know yahoo will work and there is a program that I use and talk to people all over called Paltalk. All you need is a mic and Paltalk and you are good to go...

I have had Google Talk installed along with various VoIP softphones and haven't ever had any conflicts.

Uninstall your old Yahoo Messenger using:

Start--%26gt; Control Panel--%26gt; Add Remove Programs

Once uninstalled, reboot your PC.

Then download latest version of Yahoo Messenger and re-install it.

I have Google Talk already installed on my computer, but when I go to Google Desktop sidebar and click "Add Gadgets", and go to add Google Talk, it brings me to the download page. I already tried re-downloading and installing it, but it doesn't follow on with the option to add it to Google Desktop.

If you are running XP, there is a command line tool, taskkill. You can try to identify the process running Google Talk with Task Manager. Then using taskkill, you can kill it from a command prompt. If you have XP PRO, then there is also tasklist.

I'm leaving for military deployment here in a few weeks. I have downloaded google talk on both my wifes and I laptops in hopes of being able to talk to one another (for free) while I'm gone. Has anyone had expereince with having an overseas convo on gtalk? If so how was the sound quality and did there seem to be any delay?

Calling, theoretically, should be possible as well, however there will be ~1-2s delay, but then again, it's free. If it fails, I would use Yahoo Messenger or MSN messenger for voice/video conferencing as they DO work. Another alternative is to use Skype to call landlines and mobile phones, for a low rate. If I were you, to talk PC to PC, your best bet is MSN Messenger/Windows LIVE messenger and/or Yahoo! Messenger - They are free.

Well, that's virtually impossible, as far as I know. However, I have a bit of a shortcut that will help you. First, you're going to have to sign up for an AIM account. However, it's not as hard as it seems.

Then all you have to do is go to http://www.meebo.com and sign in under AIM with your screen name, as though you were signing in your e-mail. How to able the GOOGLE TALK when it is blocked?
Any application program can be be blocked through firewalls. May be your administrator have done the same for google talk in your network. And unblocking procedure depends on what firewall software (norton/avg/pctools/symantec or whatever!) is being used. Anyway just get into the server and open the firewall program and find the option that is similar APPLICATION BLOCKING in the window. It will display a list of programs that has been blocked. Look for googletalk.exe in the list and right click on it and select "unblock" (or whatever option that is in this context like 'enable' or 'allow' ) and confirm it by clicking OK if it prompts like "Are you sure?" and close the program and log out of the server. And you can repeat the same procedure to block it again by choosing block option instead of unblock on clicking googletalk.exe in the list.

Also note that your administrator might have password protected the firewall. if so then there is no other way to unblock gtalk!

Google Talk is available in both variants, as a web based application and also as a desktop based application.

You can access its web based application, rather 'The Google Talk Gadget' at http://www.google.com/talk/ . Once there click on 'launch google talk' . Apparently this is a richer flash based interface than the one embedded with Gmail (also a web based app. 'course! ) This Gtalk gadget can also be embedded in your iGoogle page from here: http://www.google.com/ig/adde?moduleurl=... . It can also be embedded in your blog/website by getting the code from here: http://gmodules.com/ig/creator?synd=open...

Or it can also be integrated into the Firefox/Opera sidebar.

So this way Google Talk is a web based application since it requires no downloads at all . You just need your web browser armed with one of the latest versions of flash player, preferably version 8.0 onwards required to work with the web based gadget.

The Other variant is the desktop based client which can be downloaded by going to http://www.google.com/talk/ and clicking on 'download the google talk client' . Since this is a downloadable program and does not run in the browser therefore its not a web based application. Rather this makes it a desktop based app.

So all in all, with the google talk web based application you just need a browser connected to the internet and you can use it anywhere even away from home where the google talk software is not installed , whilst, to use the google talk client(the desktop based app.), this software must be installed on a computer to use it.

actually this is very common with most membership sites. It tells other members at that site when you are logged on to the internet so that they can IM you/ whatever..other members know when you/your computer is connected to the internet..

This can be argued especially w/ the windows operating system. But the application that runs off the internet is really made for open source use. Meaning that the online app is capabable of running on any computer, at any time, anywhere.

The desktop G-talk product was made primarily so it would no longer have to rely on the internet browser.

You have to ask yourself what's better. The G-talk program running through the internet browser such as 'internet explorer' which has the famous reputation of having 'App hangs' or would u rather the program not depend on another program in order to run.

When you check your gmail you'll notice that G-talk is by default activated in the left hand corner, u can disable this by choosing an option on the bottom that eliminates it from operating.

In this way you can save some bandwidth.

I would let you know a simple way to get their orkut id's..

For that all you need to do is...

Go to Orkut settings where you can customize...there you would find an option like intimate friend requests and all other stuff through messages or mails...

I want you to mark on intimate through mails...

If any one adds you in orkut automatically you will be recieving a mail with their email id..

ex:- bharathreddy%26lt;bharathreddypunuru@gmail.co... you in orkut..

google talk is not working with my computer. when i sign in then it show an error and could not open. while all other messengers are working good on my computer. please help me why only google talk is not running on my computer.

Same thing happened to me...I found out my danged firewall was blocking it, and not saying so! Also Firefox had a hand in it! So check into those. Then you might check in to the Google Groups (there's a separate one for Google Chat) and search around for comments by anyone else who's had problems that sound like yours!
Reply:maybe there's something wrong with the google network or maybe your account isn't working well, you can ask some help in the google admins, but i dont know if they have any e-mails to contact :(

Install 'empathy' using synaptic. I am still reading - will get back as there are some who don't get outgoing unless the other user initiates the call. Maybe that is ironed out now. Which version are you using? Jaunty?

Open up the menu and tap IM that will take you to the Yahoo, Windows Live AIM and Google Talk clients. You can do what you want then.
Reply:It should come with GTALK, the Google Talk client. Also, Google Talk presence should show up in contacts list on your phone (if they are on Google Talk and in your contacts that is).

I don't have an Android phone (yet), so I can't verify that for you.

have a first ten iPod touch and I would love to have sip. I have fring and siax and a google talk account. Everything I do seem to fail when I try to call someone. Your text conversations are not secured. Most of your web communication probably isn't. The webpages you see, most IM services, chatting, and anything that goes over the line is unsecured. Unless a service explicitly uses SSL or something along those lines, it is not secured.

If you want encryption, probably the best way is to look into PGP. You'll manually have to encrypt your chat text using PGP and send it through Google Talk.
Reply:I'm pretty sure Google saves all the conversations to a database. To find out for sure you would have to read the long privacy policy. I wouldn't trust anything to be totaly secure and encrypted. I am also pretty sure there is no program you can buy or download to encrypt the conversations.
