Is chatting,using the cam, google talk considered a download?

Yes it is! Chatting using any messenger like Google Talk, MSN Messenger or Yahoo Messenger amounts to data being transferred from your computer to the recipients computer and vice versa ...so technically when you send a message ...your computer is uploading it and when you receive a message your computer is downloading it.





And if you decide to use a cam then you are only uploading your streaming images to the recipient who in effect will be downloading them, and if you view the recipients cam then you are downloading his/her images!

yeah....when u get some information from the chat person it considered to be as donwload.....and when u send him something it comes under upload.....both of them r considered as download......

However when most people refer to downloads or downloading they are taking something more major down - it can be saved or into memory.


When you are chatiing or on the webcam it is a stream of information- generally not a whole lot of data that most likelyis not being saved the other end


If you were using some ultra high quality webcam ( 100 times more detailed than your webcam) you might be uploading a fair amount of data and have the other side doing the download . Then it might be regarded in a practical sense as a download.

Reply:Any upload and download is data transfer. While chatting, there is small data transfer, but with web-cams, large amount of data transfer takes place. Hence is can be considered as a download.

and while using cam, images which we recieve, downloaded...





sending messages and broadcasting images thro webcam is a cause of uploading.....

What ISPs generally charge for is "traffic", which is the total data transferred from and to your computer while online. They may call it upload/download. This can be confusing to users and there really needs to be a law passed to prevent ISPs from using this erroneous terminology because users generally innocently presume that if they aren't saving anything to their hard disks they aren't downloading anything.





So, to answer your question, presuming it's about billing, yes, ISPs - in India, at least - consider chatting, using a webcam and google talk as both, "upload" and "download". Every message/image you send is considered an "upload" and every message/image you receive is considered "download"





This holds true even for text and images on websites that you might visit. If you see it in your browser it's considered a "download". Email is considered an "upload". Filling an online form is considered "upload". Heck, typing your username and password into your email login page is considered "upload".





Yes, it is unfair and misleading because the technical meanings of the terms are different but there it is. ISPs - again, I speak only about ISPs in India - are getting away with daylight robbery because the general user has been misled to believe that they are charging for uploads and downloads when they are actually charging for traffic.
