Reply:Yes indeed. When you use Gtalk, the default setting is that you get notifications (popups near taskbar) whenever theres a new mail. Unless you have disabled this option from thE Gtalk settings, it should work.

These are the two things that happen to you when you're blocked, regardless of which IM you're using:





鈥? The person that blocked you will ALWAYS be offline, even when they aren't.





鈥? Any messages you send to them will not go through. They will never see them.





So what you can do is create another IM account, %26amp; try to look them up. If they're online when you check on the new account, then you'll know they blocked you.

this should work, click on "Run" (in your start menu), a search bar will popup, type in "msconfig" into the text bar.


A window will popup saying "system configuration utility". there are a series of tabs in this window, click on the one that says "startup".


there will then be a list of all the programs that start when you turn on your computer. Uncheck the one that says google talk. TO EXIT CLICK ON APPLY THEN OK. but be careful and only uncheck that program, then reboot your computer to see if it has worked. if it doesn't work you will be able to go back and undo it.

goggle talk as far as I know does not currently have pc to mobile operations at least i've never seen the function, I use skype it is a voice chat service which allows calls to landlines for a per minute fee which is very reasonable I actually use it for all my long distance calls, does not require change over on existing phone service and the quality is absolutely amazing though this is an a dsl connection, and through a wireless I am not sure what the quality is on other types of internet services or connections.

This may be caused by your router,if you have it. You need to disable port blocking or firewall.


If you dont have router, make sure ur conection is not double-firewalled, for example Windows firewall and third party software like McAfee or KIS.


If this is the case,disable one of them and customise other one to allow internet acces to that apps.
Reply:Yeah, I agree with Kezele below - 95% of the time this is caused by a firewall or some other anti-virus app. Not sure why it would start "out of the blue", but go to Start, Programs and open all your anti-virus, firewall, apps (including the built-in Windows firewall listed under Security in Control Panel). Look for options to allow Skype, or just try temporarily disabling some of the protection to see if Skype will work.


To get to your router's firewall settings you'll have to log into it's setup utility. Check the manual (can find it online) for the default ip address to log in - usually something like 192.168.1.0. Then you'll need the password - get the default one from the manual if you haven't changed it.

Its not possible. For example on blackberrys you can download all kind of apps to make the internet faster, etc. On the sidekick none of this is possibkle. T-mobile and Danger have blocked any access to get free apps and free ringtones. Everything that's in the sk catalog is all that's available. The sk catalog does update though on several occassions.





You might wanna do some research and see if u can go on the internet from ur sidekick and talk on google talk. I know your able to do that with MSN so maybe you can do that with google talk!

It probably has something to do with the encryption. When you send something, you never send it like it is. Lots of weird, below-the-surface things happen. Likely Vista is having difficulty decoding the XP encryption. Next time, zip it and send it via e-mail.

Reply:I've used Pidgin since it came out (formerly known as Gaim). I never have problems with this software. I log into my MSN (Live), Yahoo!, AIM (AOL), and Google Talk + IRC.
Reply:Your best bet sounds like Trillian, however you have to pay for some extra features like video and audio conversations.





I've heard of other programs such as Pidgin and Miranda, although I haven't used them so I can't say much to that degree.





However from what I know those messengers only allow things such as AIM, MSN, and YIM, so I can't say much about the other programs.





As for AIM/AOL, I can't say anything to that, as in my opinion you would have AOL or AIM only.. So I don't know what to say. i hope my answer helps somewhat.. And good luck finding a program that can do all that!





Just a note when looking for these messengers:





A good portion of the messengers hate when other IM clients such as Trillian connect to their networks, and constantly try to patch connections to avoid it, however the other programs, like the aforementioned Trillian, release patches, so while it can be convenient, it can also cause annoyances, so it's always a good idea to keep a backup of the official IM programs you use for your main modes of contact (i.e. I use AIM, MSN, Skype, and one or two others in the past. When I used Trillian, I had MSN and AIM installed in case I couldn't log in since those were my main forms of contact outside of phone and email).





Also, keep in mind - these programs normally condense multiple messengers into one for chatting. That's about it from what I know. While some services contain features you'd use in the actual programs, they might not always work right. So in the end, getting messengers like Trillian or the real deal is up to you - What do you use them for, and will any possible disabilities that come with the program you choose hinder your needs or not?

Yeah i couldnt get into the chat rooms either just says signing in took longer than expected, the chat rooms have been unstable for most of this year, i think its a problem with yahoo chat rather than your pc or your settings.





After a bit of research i found a post on a website that says yahoo are updating the service im not sure if this is 100% true and the service has been down from the 6th july althought a few users have been able to gain access, lets hope they get rid of the bots, so people will just have to chat somewhere else for now !

How do I make the sound work on my Google Talk / AIM / MSN / Yahoo / Skype?

I have a Lenovo Y530 Entertainment PC equipped with a webcam and a microphone. I am both transmitting sound and video. However, with programs ranging from (yes, I've personally tried them all) Google Talk to AIM to Yahoo to MSN to Skype, I can NOT receive sounds. I would say it is the other persons sound problems. However it occurs with ALL makes and models of computers. I quite simply cannot hear the other person's sound. I have tried going into my audio settings and checking it to play on "RealTek Speakers" and on "Default Devices" and all the options. I can receive video, for the record. Just not audio. Also, it shows in, AIM and Google Talk for example, that the other person IS talking. It shows the little Audio dB level thing moving up and down based on the other person's talking. It just will not come out of my speakers! I have also tried plugging in microphones. Please help. Please.

Okay, so as of yesterday I got locked out of my Google Talk account. Well, the darn thing auto unlocked itself, but I still can't get into talk. Now the thing is saying my password does not match my screen name. So I followed the reset password link. And guess what, I still can't get in.


Can anyone out there please tell me what the heck is going on? I'm 99% positive I have my user name right. But how do I check? That's not listed in the my account section when I sign into Gmail.


Am I doing something wrong here or is Google just out to piss me off?

A google account gives you access to Orkut. When u tried to sign up for a new account in Gtalk what u basically did is used your Orkut account that u set up earlier (which is google account actually). So when you log in to you orkut account it shows your status "Green".


Now your question is kinda confusing :


If u want to set your status to offline : You can do so both on Gtalk as well as in Orkut by left clicking the "down arrow" thats near your status icon ("green as u said" if u are online) and set you status to invisible or simply logout of it and Vice Versa :)

hey, ive been trying to fix something on google chat that's been bugging me for a while. when i signed up for gmail and made my account, i put a fake first and last name in, lets just say its brett johnson. well now i actually use gmail chat a lot, and i want to change the name, since people have no idea who i am when i invite them but laugh once they find out. but every attempt ive made has been futile. i went to settings and set the name to something custom, but it only changed it on my own chat list, and everyone else still sees it as brett johnson. i even went to personal info and changed my name to my real name, but it still shows as bloody brett johnson to everyone else. anyone have a solution for this? thanks.

There is a google talk web app specially designed for i-phone that can be accessed when I type in the URL http://www.google.com/talk in safari browser that comes along with i-phone. I am using this application.





My question is, if I delete/block a contact from my google talk on my iphone, will that contact also be deleted/blocked from my gmail chat contact list on PC?





For example: I have deleted X from my google talk on my iphone. Will X also be deleted from my contact list when I sign in to my gmail account from PC?

Yes, the contact will be deleted from 'your account', and not just from your I-Phone. When you delete a contact, it is applied in your account, and not just reflected to your PC or I-Phone or whatever.

It's easy, here's how you do it:





Just right-click his or her name and select Remove.


When you remove names from your Friends list, you're also given the option to move the person to your Blocked list. If you'd like to block someone from talking to you, check the box next to Block this person in the dialogue box that appears, and click OK.





Note: If you're signed in with a Gmail account username, new contacts in Google Talk will also be added to your Gmail Contacts list, and vice-versa. Keep in mind that removing or blocking someone from your Google Talk Friends list does not affect your Gmail Contacts list.

Reply:I only use google talk. I use gmail so it pops up on the ride side of my email inbox. They have a google lab that allows you to text sms messages from google talk which is extremely convenient. It also logs all of your chats strait into gmail which is searchable. (i know others have logs, but great to be able to search it alongside emails to find relevant information)

My friends use different IM systems, so I use Pidgin (http://www.pidgin.im/). With Pidgin, I can log into my Yahoo, AOL and Google accounts and talk with friends logged on with those systems. Other systems are supported as well.You would need to have an account with most of the systems your friends use, but with Pidgin, you'll only have one program to log in simultaneously and see everybody.





I actually use the portable version (http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/pi... of the program most often. I have the program on my USB stick drive and carry it around with me to work, etc. Very handy when not logging in from home.





Pidgin is a free program, not shareware or nagware. It is safe and not bundled with spyware.

I would like to know where the Voicemail recording is saved i.e. in which Folder. I recently sent one Voicemail. Though the receiver got the Voicemail, I could not locate it in my PC. As I wanted to listen the same, I am very eager to know. The file is probably saved with mp3 extension.

You need to download and install Google talk to use it. Ensure you have done this properly.





If you have done everything right, your contacts should have been added from Gmail, otherwise, just add them manually.

You know what... with yahoo the stock sound card that came with your computer will work JUST PEACHY... This one has umm realteck AC97 audio which is perdy darn out of date and it works just fine. Our other computer is brand new (three weeks old) the sound in chat you honestly can't tell the difference... The bit rate on the sound isn't high enough in chat to really make a difference, at least in yahoo, I don't really know about google I haven't tried there voice protol yet. Now if you're gonna be watching movies you're gonna wanna get a really good card. hope I was of some help... may God bless ya!

I think you are mistaken, I really don't think that Google talk is compatible with Hotmail. In addition to the fact that common sense because they are competing in the market, Google uses a different system than Microsoft. Google talk doesn't work that well right now anyways, could be because it is new and has bugs, or a bunch of people are using it, or whatever the reason. I would suggest using skype and get a meebo account. skype is an internet voice network, it is free, and easy to use. Meebo is a way to keep track of all your IM accounts (gmail, yahoo, hotmail, aim, etc.) It works great, and is free. It is browser-based, so you don't have to worry about installing crap.

in your case, they don't allow you to sign in from two computers. there isn't any way around it either. good luck!

When I try to download Google Talk my computer shows the messae "Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded." Please suggest a solution.

1) Go to IE security settings and set them to Medium High and set them to default levels.





That should correct the problem. If problem still exist after this step go to IE Advanced options and and choose 'Restore Advanced Settings'.

Ive used them all off and on for years and still prefer yahoo messenger! I can video conference with my son in alaska with voice and it works the best hands down!
Reply:I like MSN but that's only because all my friends use it. There's a piece of free software called trillian which lets you use more than one IM at the same time from the one window.

Reply:Yes I use Gtalk, not for very long tho maybe like a week, I like it alot, very light, easy simple. I learn very quickly how to use. I used to use Yahoo messenger, and I am still using cause all my friends use yahoomail. Gtalk is pretty good! =)
